this is not unique to Domino

for any of the 3 mail servers supported (Exchange, Domino, Groupwise), the best practice is to always have BES on it's own box. BES uses a lot of resources ... and you do not want all the translation and http connectivity dropping a mail or application server.

I agree with you .. it costs more to do it this way. RIM should work out deals with all three vendors (IBM, Microsoft, Novell) where a limited use Domino server is included with BES.
